Senator DeMint Continues to Push for School Choice
South Carolina's popular US Senator, Jim DeMint, is continuing to push for school choice legislation to make it through the South Carolina Senate.
"The House has passed a real school choice bill...a modest move toward school choice, but it's tied up in our Senate. That's a concern, because we know our citizens want it. We know that those who are most at risk, who are getting the least from our education system, would benefit the most. But we have groups - the School Boards Association, School Administrators Association, just pressuring our senators not to do anything. Claiming it would hurt our system." - Senator Jim DeMint
So... both US Senators are in favor of school choice, every Republican Congressman from South Carolina supports school choice, the Governor supports school choice, the Lieutenant Governor supports school choice, the State Treasurer supports school choice, the State Superintendent of Education supports school choice, and 65 State House Representatives voted in support of school choice. All of these people are elected by taxpayers to represent them and make decisions that are in their best interest. They all support educational options for parents.
On the other side of the picture you have non-elected, tax-subsidized education establishment lobbying groups that self-righteously sponge millions off the education system without providing measurable improvements.
We're letting that stand in the way of a proven reform strategy? It should give state senators a lot to consider.
